There are many useful tools on Betfair that you can use and one of them is the forum, but is it any good and what can you expect on there?

  • Betfair annoucements
  • Thoughts from professional traders
  • Information and opinions
  • Banter
  • Competitions
  • Systems and strategies

Despite all that is good about the Betfair forum I haven’t bothered with it since since my working days at Ladbrokes back in 2002, for the reason I want to talk about below.

  • Character Assination: As one of the company’s spokeman at Ladbrokes, I was open to all kinds of abuse, I can assure you it would come in its spades, you name it and I have been called it in the past on there.

I just accepted that was part of the job, at first I tried to explain myself on the board, but that was green light for every Tom, Dick & Harry to have the 2 pennies worth. Back then I was being paid to do a job, that was to be the voice of my employer and didnt represent my own feeling and thoughts. By the time I had relised it was actually the company they were assinating the damage had already been done, that sour taste was in my mind.

I recieved a message from one of my members this morning regarding the character assination of Pete Nordsted, who for his sins posted his youtube link to promote the pending release of his book ‘Mastering Betfair’.

I have been fortunate to read Pete’s book ahead of its release, his publishers Harriman House were so kind in letting me read the manuscript before going to print, I found it a good read and interesting thought process. If your not familar with Harriman House, they’re the leading publishers on financial books in the UK, their list of authors include Nicolas Sarkozy current President of France and just about anybody who is important in the financial and investment world.

With a company like Harrison House, I am sure their not going to risk their reputation by publishing a book that isn’t revelent or of some value to the end user. Having worked with Pete on improving his trading since June, you couldnt meet a nicer person, somebody who has served his country in the armed forces for almost 20 years. (He actually wrote the book whilst deployed in the Falklands). Has has made sacrifices in his life, to keep all us in the comfort we’re accustomed to.

He made one comment about having to tell his wife that he had lost £500 in his youtube video, I will tell anybody who is thinking about becoming a full-time professional, if you havent got the support of your wife you will struggle to acheive this goal. I certainly wouldnt be where I am today without the backing of my wife.

One final point, Pete does trade and understands the trading process, so for those other traders mocking him in the Betfair forum, I will let you into a little secret. By this time next year Pete will be a full-time Betfair trader and also an author of published book about trading Betfair, he his working on his legacy, I wonder what stamp on society those who are mocking his character will leave?

I plan to interview Pete in a couple of weeks time, so if your interested then look out for the Podcast

Can I just say that I agree totally with you Matt. Pete is one of the best traders I know. He has a mind like a super computer and I’m in awe of some of the stuff he comes up with.

I can’t wait to get my hands on his book, as I know it will improve my trading and make me a better trader. The comments on the Betfair forum are to be expected. It’s full of wannabees who have no hopes of ever making it as a full time trader. I can say this in the knowledge that I am a full time trader and have been for 3 years.
